FACT CHECKEDIn our fast-paced environment, the search for improved cognitive function has given rise to a thriving nootropic supplement market. In this largely unregulated industry, however, there are a lot of scam products out there that cost a lot and deliver very little. That's why it's essential to research before investing in a nootropic.
Nooceptin is a popular nootropic that promises to provide a cognitive boost for athletes, students, and others who need to be on top of their game. In this Nooceptin review, we dig into the ingredients, dosages, effectiveness, and pros and cons to discover whether it is as good as the hype suggests.
Table Of Contents
Nooceptin rapidly increases your ability to concentrate on complex tasks and stay focused for hours on end. It does this without relying on stimulants like caffeine...
Nooceptin is a natural nootropic supplement designed to boost brain power, focus, attention, and mental energy. It was created to meet the needs of athletes, gamers, students, academics, and business people. Nooceptin contains only natural herbally-based herbs and compounds that, according to the manufacturer, have been proven to enhance cognitive function safely.
SAP Nutriceuticals, a UK-based company with an established reputation in the health supplement industry, manufactures Nooceptin nootropic. SAP also produces Vyvamind, another nootropic. The critical difference between the two is that Vyvamind is a stimulant-based product designed to provide a fast-acting mental boost. In contrast, Nooceptin is stimulant-free for smooth, long-term cognitive performance.
SAP claims that Nooceptin works through five separate mechanisms to improve cognitive function. They are:
Nooceptin is provided in capsule form, with a recommended daily dosage of three capsules. It is only available from the official SAP website, with a one-month supply costing $69.00.
Having spent a lot of time reviewing nootropics, we're used to seeing products that either provide good ingredients that are underdosed or bad ingredients that are cheap and plentifully supplied.
So, it's refreshing that, in Nooceptin, we have come across one that delivers the right ingredients at the proper dosages. Combining Lion's mane extract, l-theanine, citicoline, bacopa monnieri, ginkgo biloba extract, and Rhodiola rosea will provide a serious, ongoing boost to your mental faculties.
Remember that Nooceptin is a stimulant-free nootropic, so it won't give you the immediate boost you'd experience from a can of Red Bull. Instead, it is designed to provide a more sustained, long-term improvement in overall cognitive function.
Overall Verdict: PASS
SAP claims that the ingredient profile for Nooceptin is the best on the market, delivering the best natural brain boosters at the correct dosages. Let's put that claim to the test as we dig into the seven Nooceptin ingredients.
Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) extract is derived from a variety of edible mushrooms. It has been used for generations in traditional Asian medicine.
Modern researchers have identified its bioactive compounds to be hericenones and erinacines, which are thought to have neuroprotective and neurodegenerative properties [1]. They may promote the creation of nerve growth factor (NGF), which is needed for nerve cells' growth, upkeep, and survival. So, Lion's mane may help to improve cognitive performance and brain health by promoting NGF production.
It is thought that Lion's mane extract may also encourage neuroplasticity, which is the ability of the brain to adapt, reorganize, and create different neural connections.
In a 2020 study, subjects with Alzheimer's disease were given one gram of Lion's mane extract daily for 49 weeks. Throughout the study, ongoing cognitive tests showed significant improvement compared to a placebo group [2].
The 400 mg dosage is typical for Lion's Mane extract and aligns with the amounts used in clinical trials.
Citicoline is a naturally occurring substance produced by the human body. It produces acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter needed for a range of brain functions, including memory and learning. Citicoline is also involved in the production of phospholipids, which are essential parts of cell membranes.
Healthy cell membranes are required to effectively signal neurons and general neural health. Citicoline has been studied for its potential neuroprotective properties. It could contribute to increased cognitive resilience and long-term brain health by supporting neuronal integrity maintenance, enhancing cellular repair procedures, and reducing oxidative stress.
According to some research, using citicoline supplements may quickly increase cognitive abilities like attention, memory, and information processing [3]. These effects are believed to be linked to citicoline's support of neuronal connections and neurotransmitter function.
Dosages ranging from 250 to 500 mg per day, divided into two doses, are frequently used in clinical studies on citicoline's cognitive-enhancing effects. So, the 200 mg dosage of Nooceptin is a little on the low side.
L-Theanine is an amino acid frequently used in nootropics to increase focus, promote relaxation, and reduce stress and anxiety. Its anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties can reduce anxiety and stress without drowsiness. It is believed to promote the synthesis of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which helps soothe the nervous system and promote a sense of calmness.
L-Theanine is also known to promote the production of alpha brain waves. In addition to being connected to states of creative thinking, mindfulness, and enhanced learning capacity, alpha waves are also connected to a state of wakeful relaxation. According to certain research, L-Theanine may also help maintain normal brain function and lower the risk of cognitive decline because of its potential neuroprotective effects.
A 2021 study gave 200 mg of l-theanine or placebo both before and after a mental arithmetic test. Heart rate, blood pressure, and self-reported stress levels were analyzed. The results showed significant improvements in frontal cortex alpha power and a more calming, relaxed response in those who took l-theanine [4].
The 200 mg dosage of L-Theanine Nooceptin is within the normally administered range of 100-400 mg.
Panax ginseng, also known as Asian or Korean ginseng, is classified as an adaptogen that can moderate stress and anxiety. It may also improve brain function, specifically memory, focus, and mental clarity. The active ingredients in Panax ginseng, called ginsenosides, are believed to improve blood flow to the brain, cognitive function, receptor sensitivity, and neurotransmitter activity.
Panax ginseng is also thought to boost mental and physical endurance, which may lead to better cognitive function, particularly during times of heightened demand. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may also help offset oxidative stress and protect against age-related cognitive decline.
A 2017 meta-study looked at the ability of Panax ginseng to treat and prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The researchers concluded that the ginsenosides contained in Panax ginseng have strong neuroprotective qualities that may counter the effects of these diseases [5].
The recommended dosage for Panax ginseng is usually between 100 and 400 mg per day, so the 200 mg in Nooceptin is about right.
Rhodiola rosea is another adaptogenic herb used in traditional medicine for its ability to increase physical and mental resilience in the face of adversity.
Well known for its adaptogenic characteristics, it's believed to modify the body's stress response system and lessen the release of stress hormones like cortisol. This effect on stress reduction may indirectly boost cognitive function by slowing down cognitive deterioration brought on by prolonged stress.
Rhodiola rosea also offers energizing qualities that may counteract mental and physical tiredness. In one study, 60 subjects suffering from stress-related fatigue were divided into either Rhodiola rosea or a placebo group. The rosea group was given 576 mg daily for 28 days. Several stress tests were administered during and after the trial. Results showed that the rosea group had significantly greater improvement in lowering stress levels [6].
With regard to the dosage, 150 mg is a typical amount found in many nootropic pills containing Rhodiola rosea extract. The formulation and concentration of the active chemicals can, however, affect the doses. Rhodiola rosea extract dosages of 100 mg to 600 mg have been used in research studies.
The traditional Ayurvedic herb Bacopa monnieri comes from a plant indigenous to India and has long been used to reduce stress and improve brain function.
Most known for its capacity to improve memory and cognitive function, it's thought to assist by regulating neurotransmitter activity and increasing synaptic connectivity. Bacopa also contains substances with antioxidant characteristics that help prevent oxidative stress and damage to brain cells. This might improve general brain health and possibly lower the danger of cognitive decline.
Bacopa monnieri's neuroprotective qualities are especially important for fostering cognitive resilience as we age. Bacopa is an adaptogen, which means it may help the body more effectively deal with stress.
It also may indirectly help improve cognitive performance by lowering cortisol levels and promoting a balanced stress response. According to a 2013 meta-analysis studying nine clinical trials, "bacopa monnieri has the potential to improve cognition, particularly speed of attention [7]".
The most common dosage used in nootropic supplements is 300 mg, based on active bacoside content of 55%. So, the 150 mg dosage of Nooceptin is on the low side.
Gingko biloba extract contains a combination of bioactive chemicals that may improve memory and brain power. Its antioxidants such as flavonoids and terpenoids protect from oxidative stress, adding to the neuroprotective properties that protect brain cells from damage [8]. This extract may also increase cerebral blood flow so that there is greater oxygen and nutrient flow to the brain.
The dosage range used in clinical trials ranges from 60 mg to 240 mg. The 100 mg used in Nooceptin is within that range.
According to the official Nooceptin website, when taken according to the user directions, this product will provide you with the following health benefits:
The manufacturer claims that combining Lion's mane extract, citicoline, and ginkgo biloba extract will boost cognitive function.
Lion's mane extract promotes the development of nerve growth factors and neuroplasticity, boosting brain flexibility and the ability to process information. Citicoline delivers choline, which is a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, needed for memory and learning. Ginkgo biloba extract increases brain blood flow so that more oxygen and nutrients are available to the brain.
So, it makes sense that this powerful combination can accelerate your brain power.
When stress and anxiety are reduced, the brain can function more clearly. L-Theanine is a controller of neurotransmitter activity, helping to alleviate stress. Bacopa monnieri is an adaptogen that also helps alleviate stress and may reduce the production of the stress hormone cortisol. Rhodiola rosea is another herbal ingredient that is added to alleviate stress.
The synergistic effect of ingredients such as Bacopa monnieri and ginkgo biloba extract may support memory and recall due to the increased brain blood flow they promote.
Overall brain health may be boosted due to Lion's mane extract's ability to promote nerve growth factor production and brain cell development. Several ingredients also have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help offset the adverse effects of oxidative stress on the brain.
Citicoline increases cellular energy generation and maintains mental energy levels. In addition, ginkgo biloba extract increases blood flow to the brain, possibly increasing mental clarity and vigor.
Nooceptin is generally considered safe when taken in the recommended dosage of three capsules daily. However, individual reactions may differ, with some people experiencing minor side effects. These may include:
Lion's mane may cause digestive problems, including stomach upset and diarrhea. People with allergies to mushrooms should be especially cautious.
Citicoline has been known to cause some adverse reactions such as nausea, headaches, and stomach upset. These effects usually go away after a few days.
Bacopa monnieri may cause dry mouth, cramps, nausea, or stomach upset in a tiny population of society.
A small number of people may experience adverse reactions to ginkgo biloba, including skin rash, nausea, and stomach discomfort.
Rhodiola rosea may lead to insomnia in some people.
It is difficult to find verified user reviews for Nooceptin online. I could not find any testimonials from everyday users on the official website. However, there is the following comment from PHD neuroscientist Dr. Olivia Levine:
"Overall, the seven active ingredients in Nooceptin show promising effects that may enhance cognitive function and reduce stress in combination with a healthy lifestyle."
I also managed to find the following:
"With Nooceptin, I was surprised when I noticed changes within a couple of weeks. I was expecting it to take up to three months, per their marketing messaging.
The first thing I noticed was suddenly; I was much more immersed in my work rather than having the looming deadline in the back of my head. I was truly enjoying it. This is big since stress revolving around deadlines can definitely spiral for me…
Throughout my three months of taking Nooceptin, I noticed this more and more. I was more focused and more inclined to really live in the moment.
It's also important to note that I did have mild nausea the first few times I took this supplement. This tends to happen when I take any new nootropic on an empty stomach, so no big surprise there." (source)

Now, we'll answer some of your more frequently asked questions about Nooceptin.
Yes, based on our analysis of the ingredients and user experience, we are confident that Nooception works in terms of improved mental performance, ability to support brain health, and aid in brain cell growth and development. Remember, though, that it is a stimulant-free nootropic, so it will not give the immediate mental energy kick you'd get from a caffeine-containing stimulant.
Although individual responses may vary, the ingredients in Nooceptin should make you feel as follows:
You might notice increased focus, mental acuity, and perhaps even greater memory and recall. These cognitive advantages could be attributed to Lion's mane's impact on neuroplasticity and nerve growth factor production. The ability of L-theanine to promote relaxation without making people drowsy is well established. It could make you feel less stressed and anxious while increasing your calm and centeredness.
The choline component of citicoline may help to improve focus, memory, and other cognitive abilities—some people who use citicoline claim to have more mental energy and clarity. The ability of ginkgo to increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain may also help people feel more focused and alert.
Rhodiola is frequently linked to decreased mental tiredness and improved cognitive performance during stressful situations or difficult activities. You might feel more energized and concentrated as a result.
The official website advises taking Nooceptin for at least eight weeks before its full effects are experienced. This results from a gradual build-up of the ingredients in your body. However, you should see improvements in your mental sharpness within the first week or two.
There is no universally recognized #1 rated nootropic. While a number of companies claim to have the best-selling or top-rated nootropics, it all comes down to the ingredients and their dosages. We haven't yet encountered a product with a perfect ingredient profile, but Nooceptin comes close. It would be even better if it included Alpha-GPC, Omega-3 fatty acids, and caffeine, but it impresses us as a high-quality stim-free nootropic.
Nooceptin impresses as a supplement containing proven ingredients in dosages that will generally provide similar results to those found in clinical trials.
Further, it doesn't contain any questionable or filler ingredients to boost the ingredient profile. Even though there are a few extra ingredients we'd have liked to have seen, such as Alpha-GPC and omega-3 fatty acids, the ingredient profile of Nooceptin is about as good as any we've seen.
If you're after a stimulant-free nootropic that really works, then Nooceptin is for you. If you prefer a caffeine-containing brain-boosting stimulant, we recommend Vyvamind, also from SAP Nutriceuticals.
Nooceptin rapidly increases your ability to concentrate on complex tasks and stay focused for hours on end. It does this without relying on stimulants like caffeine...
